How neither side scored in yesterday’s game is something of a mystery – although we had a couple of great chances in the second half, they should have been at least a couple of goals up before half time. Their finishing was nothing short of disastrous, and it got to the point where we were laughing at their ineptitude. Certainly, from our point of view, it was a point won, and we’re now unbeaten in 7 matches, and, of course, still top. I’ll certainly remember Leicester as the side that brought out the worst in City this season, and they did as well as anyone against us (a win and a draw).

The day out was great fun, although I managed to send us the wrong way on the M6, northwards instead of east – maybe I was getting ahead of myself, thinking that we were due to play Man United or Liverpool. Anyway, I realised my mistake fairly soon, and U-turns on motorways are not nearly as dangerous as some people think, so we were soon heading in the right direction again.

The stadium was very impressive, with a good view from every seat, and plenty of legroom, and initially it made me look forward to our new ground (in 2010?) with renewed relish. That said, although our corner was packed, the rest of the stadium seemed very sparsely populated, and I assumed that the total was probably around 13,000. I was amazed when it was announced as over 22,000, i.e. 3,000 than we ever have at Ashton Gate, and I did start to wonder whether it really is a good idea to be planning a stadium so much bigger than our normal crowd. Do we really want to sit in a half empty ground every week?

A satisfactory weekend, footie-wise, was finished off with a sound thrashing for the Rovers tonight, demolished 5-1 by West Brom in the FA Cup quarter finals. After a weekend of upsets in the cup (Barnsley beat Chelsea (yay!), Portsmouth beat Man Utd (double yay!), and Cardiff beat Middlesboro (not so yay…)), the omens were pointing to a shock Rovers win, but it was not to be. The added bonus for City supporters is that the Baggies’ continuing cup run will distract them from their league campaign, which could be to our advantage, given that, as things stand, they are the only side that can catch us up. But we have a busy week this week, with Watford on Tuesday, and Plymouth on Saturday – both huge games… aren’t they all these days?
